Bottleneck for successful IWRM is are sustainable operation and maintenance of water technologies. This problem increases even more with IWRM increasingly implementing decentralised and close to nature concepts and technologies. Altogether, there is no lack of available technologies but a lack of technical skills regarding installation and maintenance works. This lack of operation and maintenance shall be targeted through a Franchise Concept. Franchiser will be an internationally experienced water service provider, Local Service Providers will be the franchisees. These service providers are cheaper but need training and continuous support from their bigger partner.

Scientific support and implementation are done in cooperation by the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management at the University of Witten / Herdecke (Prof. Dr. Dr. K.-U. Rudolph) and the industrial partners REMONDIS Aqua International GmbH & Co.KG und Huber SE.
